First strokes, taught properly.
Lessons run in small groups with Swim England qualified teachers. Children are assessed and placed at the right stage, then progress at their own pace.
Complete beginners can enquire and register directly, with no trial. Children who already swim have a free assessment first, so they start in the right group.
Learn to Swim programme
Train with purpose.
Nine squads, from Bronze 1 for developing swimmers through to County and Performance groups. The training commitment grows with each level.
Joining starts with an enquiry, then a free trial and a coach assessment. The coach recommends the squad that fits the swimmer's current ability. Placement is never guaranteed, and swimmers can be reassessed as they develop.
Programmes and timetable
Two ways in for adults.
Adult Beginner Lessons at Oaklands School for anyone learning from scratch. A Women's Only Masters Squad at Isleworth Leisure Centre for women aged 18 and over who can swim 100m in freestyle, backstroke or breaststroke.
The Women's Only session is a one-hour coached squad session on Mondays from 8 to 9pm, including preparation for competitions, open-water events and triathlons. Entry is by enquiry, with the same trial and assessment process as squad swimming.
Adult swimming
Swimming beyond the club.
Funded programmes run alongside the club's paid provision: Swim Safe, Stay Safe for 11 to 14 year olds, swimming for Young Carers aged 10 to 18 (up to 25 for SEND swimmers), Deaf and Blind swimming sessions, and SEND swimming.
Each programme has its own purpose, eligibility and joining route. They are not a ladder into the squads. If cost is a barrier to any of the club's activities, contact the club in confidence.
Community programmesTell us about the swimmer.
Age, current ability and any previous experience is enough. We will point you to the right route and arrange a free trial where one is needed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I ask about a swimming assessment?
Start with an enquiry through Join Us. For squad swimming, the next steps are a free trial, a coach assessment, registration and the Swim Club Manager link.
Do I need to choose the right squad before enquiring?
No. Tell LBHSC the swimmer’s age, current ability and previous experience. A coach can assess the swimmer and recommend the most suitable starting point.
Is there a programme for adult swimmers?
Yes. Adult Swimming offers Adult Beginner Lessons and a Women's Only Masters Squad. Community sessions are another route for building confidence.
Book a free trial.
For squads and assessed routes, the first step after your enquiry is a free trial. Tell us the swimmer's age and current ability and we will arrange it.
